Mike Frost Biography

I bring to your projects an extensive background in writing and editing, web site creation and project management.

From 1994 to 2001, I was director of the Society for Human Resource Management's Internet initiative. I was originally hired to program and create content for SHRM's first electronic forum, on the Prodigy Network (at that time, the leading online service provider -- yes, times do change!). Within six months, we migrated onto the Internet, creating the award-winning SHRM Online web site. For the first three years of SHRM Online's existence, I comprised a one-man shop, providing Association Trends Coverall of the original writing, coding and design, preparing and monitoring budgets and maintaining the site. Eventually, SHRM's Internet Operations division became a 15-person department with annual revenues in excess of $6 million.

I have spoken at over 50 HR and association seminars and conferences and am recognized as an authority on the development of association web sites (hence the embarrassing picture at left, from ASAE's Executive Update publication).

In addition, I have worked as a writer and editor for a variety of publications and publishers, including the National Geographic Society, the Smithsonian Institution, the National Institute for Business Management, HR News and HR Magazine.

In addition to being an "HTML wiz," I'm proficient in many software packages including HomeSite, Dreamweaver, Front Page, Photoshop, Word, WordPerfect, Microsoft Project, Excel, Quattro, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat (production software). I have a thorough knowledge of the Chicago and AP Stylebooks, and I am a member of Washington Independent Writers and the International Webmaster Association.

In February 2001, I launched my career as a freelance writer/editor and web consultant. Being an independent contractor allows me to work on a variety of projects for a wide range of organizations. And, it creates flexibility in my schedule as my wife and I look forward to our adoption of a baby from China later this year.

Please see my online resume for details on my professional experience.
